Where Do We Begin To Mourn?

This work was created in response to two invitations.

One to participate in the summer 2026 Mall RATS prompt : Where Do I Begin ?

One to write a eulogy for liberal ideals as part of Susan Martin’s residency at Lamplight in West Asheville.

I combined the two with a single project:

Where Do We Begin To Mourn ?

Mourning is the outward expression of grief, a way to collectively grieve in public. There have been a number of nation-wide losses this year that have called many of us to action; to the streets, to the phones, to the ballot box. But where do we begin to mourn? This is an invitation to pause and recognize the very human response to assault, fear, anger, and loss.
